‘Catamounts for Belcher’ team supporting work of brain tumor center

Members of the Western Carolina University community have an opportunity to join a “Catamounts for Belcher” team and help support the work of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke Medical Center through the upcoming fundraiser “Angels Among Us.”

The event, which includes a 5K run and Family Fun Walk, will be held on the medical center’s campus in Durham on Saturday, April 28. Donations go directly to support research being done at the brain tumor center.

Visitors to the website angelsamongus.org have an option of joining a team or participating in the event as individuals. Those who cannot attend also are encouraged to make donations through the website.

Those interested in joining the team “Catamounts for Belcher” can do so by going to angelsamongus.org, clicking on “Join an Existing Team,” entering the team name in the space provided and clicking on the “Search For A Team” button.

WCU Chancellor David O. Belcher began medical leave last Dec. 31 after an ongoing battle with brain cancer. He does not expect to return to the chancellor position.

Beau Busby, assistant director of alumni engagement in WCU’s Office of Advancement, is spearheading the effort to organize a team representing WCU. For more information, contact Busby at bbusby@wcu.edu or 828-227-7166.
