Swim classes for children, adults offered at WCU

Western Carolina University’s Division of Educational Outreach is offering an opportunity for adults and children to learn to swim during a series of classes in March.

Classes will be held Monday through Wednesday nights on successive weeks (March 12-14 and 19-21) at the university’s Reid Gymnasium pool.

Swim classes teach safety and are fun.

A swim refresher class for children will be offered each night from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. The class is appropriate for beginners through advanced levels, and children must be at least 5 years old.

Classes for adults will be held from 7:30 to 8:20 p.m. The instruction will be appropriate for adults who want to overcome their fear of water and those who have minimal swimming skills but want to learn proper techniques and develop survivor skills.

Michael Creason, instructor for the classes, is retired from the health, physical education and recreation faculty at WCU. He is certified by the American Red Cross and has been a swimming instructor for more than 40 years.

The cost is $59 for each series of classes. Preregistration by Friday, March 9, is required.

Adults with questions about class content can contact Creason at 828-293-5364. To register or for more information, contact the Division of Educational Outreach at 828-227-7397 or visit the website swim.wcu.edu.
