Blackrock Outdoor Co. opens in Noble Hall, with cafe/bookstore combo soon to come

All the commercial space on the ground floor of Noble Hall, Western Carolina University’s new mixed-use facility on Centennnial Drive, is close to being fully operational with outdoor recreation retailer Blackrock Outdoor Co. now open for business and MadStone Cafe and Catching Light Books, a combination eatery and bookstore, set for a low-key “soft opening” during WCU’s spring break week.

WCU ranked top-10 ‘military-friendly’ school

Western Carolina University has been designated a national top-10 “military-friendly school” for 2017 by Victory Media, a Pennsylvania-based company that surveyed more than 1,700 schools nationwide to rate the services they provide to military students.

With plans to start a similar program at their school, representatives from an Austrian teachers college spent a day-and-a-half on the Western Carolina University campus to get a close look at the University Participant Program, WCU’s two-year, on-campus living-and-learning experience for college-age adults with intellectual disabilities.
